1. EQUIPMENT AUDIT

The audit will include:
  • Equipment operation
  • Any adjacent equipment that could present a risk of injury due to their operation
  • Isolation points for each of the energies that operate the equipment
  • Hidden energies
  • The exact locations of each piece of equipment and each isolation point
  • The necessary locking and labeling devices (type, size and quantity) for each isolation point of the equipment.

2. MARKING LOTO SPOTS

Each of the established isolation points will be marked and photographed, for each piece of equipment.

3. PREPARATION OF SPECIFIC LOTO INSTRUCTIONS

The specific LOTO instructions are drawn up for each piece of equipment and represent the documents that are applied for the isolation, blocking and labeling of the equipment on which an intervention will be made during the service and / or maintenance activities.

The following standards will be applied:

  • American Standard (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) “OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147- The control of hazardous energy (lockout / tagout)”
  • American Standard “OSHA 29 CFR 1910.333 – Selection and use of work practices”
  • American Standard “OSHA 29 CFR 1926.417 – Lockout and tagging of circuits”
  • European Directive “Directive 2009/104 / EC – use of work equipment”
  • European Standard “EN 1037: 1995 + A1, Safety of machinery – Prevention of unexpected start-up”

4. REQUIRED LOCKING DEVICES LISTING

Preparation of the list of necessary locking and labeling devices for the audited equipment, depending on:

  • Their number
  • Simultaneity of service and maintenance activities
  • Number of people involved

5. STAFF TRAINING

(maximum 10 people / session)
Supporting the training course of the personnel involved in the application of the LOTO system, with training by LOTO authorized persons.

6. THE LOTO PROCEDURE

This procedure is unique for each company and includes:

  • Terms and definitions of applied notions;
  • Description of own LOTO system;
  • Staff training and retraining requirements;
  • Requirements regarding the personnel of third party companies;
  • Methods of applying the LOTO system in different existing situations (one person involved, the situation of the maintenance and service group, the arrival or departure of a person within the intervention group, the intervention on an equipment, for a period of one or more shifts, etc. );
  • Documents applicable in the LOTO system.
